On Friday 28 April, Red7Marine held a safety culture day for its entire staff to attend. Safety is a core value at Red7Marine, and the company has its own SHEQ policy, SAFER7MINDS which reflects this.

Nick Offord, Managing Director of Red7Marine has attended Active Training Team’s EPIC, a one-day induction for employees on the Thames Tideway Tunnel construction project. Having been extremely impressed by the experience, Nick wanted all of his employees to participate in a similarly powerful day.

Held at Wrabness Village Hall, the event kicked off at 9am and Nick was extremely pleased to welcome the Red7Marine team as well as Alex Vaughan and Imlach Shearer from the Thames Tideway Tunnel project.  The Active Training Team explained how the day would revolve around drama and more specifically how drama can be used to explore behaviours.

With discussions in full swing, Active Training Team engaged the audience with an immersive experience that highlighted the importance of safety and being tuned into those working around you with effective communication. Participants were engaged by the interactions they had with the characters throughout the performance.

Alex Vaughan, Head of Health and Safety at Tideway London commented: “I was extremely impressed with how engaged the Red7Marine team were throughout the day, there was no hesitation from the team in getting actively involved. Red7Marine’s commitment to culture and safety reflects our own. Health, Safety and Wellbeing is of the utmost importance to us all on Tideway and we are delighted to have partners working on the project that share this dedication.”

With a dramatic ending to the scenario performed on the day, all of the team were left with a lasting impression and understanding of the importance of health and safety within the construction industry. Active Training Team helped participants to reflect on various scenarios and the contributing factors in a culture workshop. The day ended with practical safety leadership skills workshop, introducing participants to communication techniques to ensure that well-being is always maintained.

Adam Christopher, Director of ATT said: “We were thrilled to be invited to Wrabness to work with Red7Marine. Nick Offord and ATT share the same belief that regardless of the size of an organisation safety is a by-product of strong, effective leadership. It was a pleasure to work with Nick’s team and introduce Red7Marine to this form of training.”
